Cops arrest three for duping people

Bidhannagar City police arrested three persons on the charge of stealing money from bank accounts.Those accused acted as top bank officials for getting ATM PINs from several people.

They used to call up the people posing as bank manager. They took the debit card details from those people and withdrew money from their accounts using internet banking, police said.

The accused, Raju Shaw and Ananda Sen and Pawan Agarwal, will soon be produced before the court, police added.

A Baguiati resident Prasanti Nandi lodged a complaint with the local police station that he was cheated of Rs 54,997 on January last year. Somebody called him up and wanted know his debit card detail. Nandi gave the detail without any hesitations. Later, the offenders took away money from his account.

In another case, a religious guru Dhurjati Prasad Chakrabarty was cheated Rs 91,496 on April last year. Chakrabarty, resident of Salt Lake's CL-264 lodged complaint with police. The modus operandi of the case was so simple. It was just similar to the previous case.

In another incident, a Duttabad resident, Devnath Shaw was cheated of Rs 39,850 on December last year.

One person called him up and took the information of his debit card. The police, however, said that these three persons are not connected. They individually tried to dupe several people.

They were successful in some cases. Mobile phones, trade licenses and some dealership stamps were seized from the accused.
