Sector-V gets wayfinding signages

Nabadiganta Industrial Township Authority (NDITA) has come up with a new set of signages called the "Wayfinding Signage" for Sector V, the IT hub in Bengal.

This is for the first time in the country when Wayfinding Signages are being put up. These signages are very common in the West. The engineers of NDITA have designed them.

Wayfinding refers to information system that guide people through a physical environment and enhance their understanding and experience of the space.

In the workshop on future cities, it was highlighted that human behaviour should be used more often as an urban design tool.

The Wayfinding Signages have given equal importance on pedestrians as well as vehicles.

It has been seen that motorists like to relate distance to be covered. Pedestrians on the other hand relate to time to destination while on foot.

Vehicles want to know about streets and pedestrians want maps. The signages contain both the street numbers, maps as well as the time taken to reach a place from an important intersection.

It may be mentioned that as Sector-V is the IT hub thousands of people visit the area every day. Many of these visitors prefer to walk down to their destination. A multi-storey car park will come up in Sector-V. The vehicles will drop the persons at the car park from there they will have to go to their destination.

A team from IIT Kharagpur along with senior officials and engineers of NDITA visited Sector-V in a bus to see the actual traffic situation. IIT Kharagpur will prepare a modern traffic management system. There will be graded cycle tracks. IT professionals throughout the globe prefer cycling and even to go to office on cycles.
