Two jute mills suspended its production on Tuesday. Nadia Jute mill at North 24 Parganas Naihati and Gazol Jute Mill at Malda, declared suspension of work.
Around 3,500 workers have suddenly become jobless. There were at least 3,000 workers in Nadia Jute Mill who have lost the job. Around 500 workers in Gazol Jute Mill lost their job at Malda.
The reason of suspension of work in Nadia Jute Mill is still unclear. The Mill owners did not explain the reason of closure.
However, the labours alleged that it was the fall out of ego clash between the management and union.
Infuriated workers ransacked the Jute Mill office there. This jute mill was closed on January 12 and then it was opened on January 16. But on Tuesday morning, management decided to close the production.
The reasons of suspension of production in Gazol Jute Mill were also unknown. The labours came to join the work on Tuesday morning. They saw the notice board.
The angry workers started to demonstrate in front of the mill gate.
It should be recalled that a massive fire broke out at a jute mill in Titagarh area of North 24 Parganas district just a month ago.
The blaze spread over the 10,000 sq ft area of mill factory, especially in the store section, where jute materials were stocked.
In that time, the labourers alleged, the mill, which was running when the fire broke out, reportedly did not have adequate fire security arrangements.
The fire is estimated to have caused a loss of more than Rs.1 crore, reducing the jute stocks to ashes.
However, police believed that cause of the fire might be short circuit.
