TMC worker's kin thrashed for refusing to pay extortion money

Family members of a Trinamool Congress worker were attacked by some local youth when they protested against being extorted by the accused for construction of a house. The incident triggered tension at Sripur village in Malda district on Monday.

It was learnt that the mother and wife of Sabedur Ali, a local Trinamool Congress worker, were beaten up by some miscreants who were demanding extortion from them in exchange for building a house. The accused threatened to damage the victims' undergoing construction work if they were not paid.

On Monday morning, the accused turned up at the house of the Trinamool worker and demanded the extortion money. At the time of the incident, Sabedur was not at home. His mother and wife told the goons that they would not pay any extortion as they were constructing a house on their own plot and there was nothing illegal.

This further infuriated the accused and they went on to attack both the women. The miscreants immediately fled the spot after the incident.

The women said that none of the local residents came forward to their rescue despite repeated calls for help.

After being informed the Sabedur rushed to his house and took the victims to the hospital where they were given primary treatment. They were later released.
