TMC worker in Mangalkote fighting for life after brutal thrashing by goons

A Trinamool Congress worker was beaten up by miscreants at Mangalkote's Kulsona village on Sunday night.

The Trinamool worker was admitted to a local hospital, where doctors said that his condition remains critical.

Khilafat Mullick received severe injuries to his head, shoulder, back and legs, after four miscreants reportedly used iron and wooden rods to beat him and left him by the roadside.

The incident took place around 8 pm on Sunday and Mullick was left lying by the roadside for nearly two hours, before some local villagers spotted him there.

They rescued him and took him to a rural hospital where he is undergoing treatment. Police have initiated an investigation.

An investigating officer in the case said: "Mullick, a middle-aged Trinamool Congress worker was attacked by four miscreants near a road in the village while he was returning home riding a scooter on Sunday night.

"The miscreants had covered up their faces with black cloth and stopped him in the deserted area.

No other persons were in the locality except for the four culprits and the victim. Mullick tried to escape and turn back but the miscreants overpowered him," the officer added.

The investigating officer said that the assailants pushed him to the ground, took out iron and wooden rods and beat him black and blue, after which they culprits quickly fled the spot.

Blood was oozing out of Mullick's body, especially his nose and left eye, and his legs were almost completely broken.

The district Trinamool leadership reached the hospital to check on Mullick. The TMC leaders have allegated that some goons of the district CPI(M) leadership were responsible.

They alleged that CPI(M) had sent anti-socials to hurt Mullick, whose soaring popularity in the locality was a source of envy for the CPI(M) leaders.

However, the district CPI(M) leadership has ruled out the allegation, saying it is just a conspiracy against them.
