A 25-feet tall Saraswati idol will be the main attraction this year at Kolaghat, East Midnapore. Diglabar Social Welfare Centre, Kolaghat, has already made this tall and large Saraswati idol, which will be an inescapable attraction of Saraswati Puja and festivals in Kolaghat, this year. The
organisation hopes to get a huge turnout.
The district police were earlier informed about this year's giant Saraswati idol. "We took the concept from Deshapriyo Park Durga Puja. The people, especially children, always have an attraction towards large idols. We have seen that in Deshapriyo Park at Kolkata for the last two years. This year, Kolaghat will see something different," said an organiser.
However, district police has taken adequate safety measures and necessary arrangements for this puja. "We knew what happened in Deshapriyo Park in 2015. Police had to shut the door of the park for safety reasons. Keeping that in mind, we have planned our arrangements. We are ready to tackle a huge gathering. We assure that no such problem will arise here," said a police officer.
"The turn out in Saraswati Puja will not be such a huge like Deshapriyo Park Durga Puja. But we are ready to tackle it," the officer added.
It may be recalled that Kolkata police was compelled to shut the Deshapriyo Park's entrances after losing control over mob-rush in 2015. Lakhs of people turned out to witness world biggest Durga Idol in 2015. However in 2016, police learnt from their mistakes and came up with better crowd management techniques. A puja committee in South Kolkata erected an idol of Durga with her 'Hajaar Haat' (one thousand hands) avatar. The spectators praised Kolkata Police's arrangement in 2016.
Meanwhile, the organisers in Kolaghta spent Rs 1 lakh to make the 25-feet Saraswati idol. Some artists from Kolkata and East Midnapore jointly made this beautiful idol.
