Army jawan held for molesting woman on running bus

Police arrested an Army jawan on the charge of molesting a woman on a running bus on Sunday morning in Howrah. The passengers of the bus caught him and the cops were called up.

The accused was taken to the police station. This incident is very similar to another incident which took place at Kolkata's MG Road, on Friday morning.

The molesters managed to escape before the police stopped the bus at MG Road. However, police started an investigation after the victims in the bus lodged compliant.

In Howrah, the accused Pargat Singh, an Army jawan was standing in front of the seats reserved for women.

Suddenly he started arguing with some of the women sitting there. He also started making derogatory comments aimed at them.

The passengers found that the jawan was drunk as his breath reeked of alcohol.

Some other youth who were then travelling in that Howrah-Bally route, protested against the incident. Singh got hold of a woman's hand and tried to pull her towards him. The other youth stood there and tried to stop him.

One of the youth called up the Malipanchghora Police Station. The driver stopped the bus at roadside. The policemen soon reached there and Singh was arrested.

"The accused was earlier arrested on the charge of molesting a woman in his locality. Later, he got bail.

"He was also allegedly involved in a case of ransacking a hospital," said the investigating officer of the case.

The jawan was posted in Barrakpore. He was preparing to go to Nashik for training. On Sunday morning, Singh came to Howrah Maidan to buy some essential items.

It should be recalled that three women took the private bus from Howrah station. The route-24 private bus started its journey from the bus terminus at the station and took MG Road.

Three youth got into the bus from Burrabazar. They were standing in front of the seats for women and started misbehaving with them.

They were creating trouble for those women despite repeated requests from the other passengers to end the matter over there.

But the youth paid no heed to those passengers. One of the youth started pulling the hand of a woman.

The accused even started to threaten the passengers. In the meantime, one of the women dialled 100 and called up the police.

The police stopped the bus, but were unable to catch the culprits who had fled by that time.
