New year's eve turns out ugly for two bars in Salt Lake, 9 arrested
Kolkata: Two famous bars in Salt Lake were ransacked by some miscreants late on Monday night. Police later arrested nine persons in two separate cases on Monday night.
According to the sources, the first incident occurred around 12:30 am at a bar located near Salt Lake City Center. Members from two groups who were celebrating New Year got involved in an altercation. Within a few minutes, both the groups started fighting. In the heat of the moment, furniture of the bar were ransacked. Immediately, Bidhannagar North police station was informed. Later, police arrested three persons as a preventive measure. One injured lodged a complaint against some persons who were connected with the incident and a case has been initiated.
In another incident on Monday night around 1:30 am, some persons were consuming alcohol at Raize the Bar in Salt lake. Meanwhile, the bar staff asked them to wrap up their party as it was about to close.
He informed the customers that no alcohol will be served anymore. On hearing this, the customers got furious and started hurling expletives at the waiter and other staff of the bar.
To maintain peace, the bar officials asked them to leave the premises. The customers started ransacking the furniture inside the bar. When the staff tried to stop them, accused persons started beating
them up.
One of the miscreants pulled out a short knife from his socks and attacked one of the staff, while another one attacked the same person with a broken glass.
When other staff tried to save their colleague, they were also beaten up badly.
The first staff of the bar who was attacked sustained serious injuries on his head. He was immediately rushed to Bidhannagar Sub-Divisional Hospital and Electronics Complex police station was informed.
Later, three more staff of the bar were admitted to the same hospital with serious injuries.
Later, the General Manager of the bar, identified as Rahul Roy Chowdhury, lodged a complaint against the accused persons. Following the complaint filed, police arrested six persons on charges of attempt to murder (307 IPC), wrongful restraint (341 IPC), voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means (326 IPC), criminal intimidation (506 IPC) and common intention (34 IPC).
The bar authority claimed that the miscreants have ransacked several furniture, sophisticated computers and other instruments. The cost of damage is around Rs 6 lakh.
In a incident on March 14, 2017, a bar at Sector V was ransacked after a scuffle broke out between two groups over a young lady. Later, police intervened and were able to nab the accused persons. It came to light that the bar was open violating the time limit.
