New Town police foils abduction bid, arrests five
Kolkata: The New Town police in quick time rescued a person who was allegedly abducted from his fourth floor apartment in Action Area I in New Town by miscreants at gun point and arrested five persons in this connection.
The person identified as Tongbran Lukhoy Singh, originally hails from Manipur has been staying in New Town for the last few months and is associated with an non-government organisation.
According to the compliant by Ngangom Pusparani Devi, the victim's wife at New Town police station, five persons
posing as CBI officers barged into her apartment at around 10.30 hours on Friday, and under the pretext of conducting search operation took all family member's mobile phones, switched those off and kidnapped two persons Lukhoy Singh, while the other is his assistant Moirangthem Shanta Singh. The two originally hails from Lamlong at Imphal East in Manipur.
Soon after the abduction, a call was made to the complainant and the miscreants demanded a ransom amount of Rs 15 lakhs for setting the two free. The family members wasted no time and complained at the New Town police station.
The sleuths on the basis of mobile tower location of the ransom call, traced the address at Park Circus area and accordingly arrested five persons who have been identified as Vinod Rao (32), Md. Riaz Ali (32), Idris Ali (33.) Nicky Khumallambam Singh (32 and Khairul Rahaman (49) from Beniapukur & Park Street police station area. The sleuths have recovered cash, the vehicle that was involved in the alleged abduction, three fake arms and other articles from the possession of the arrested persons.
"The miscreants and the victim are being interrogated as we are still in the dark about the motive of the crime, "said an officer of New Town police station.
