New Town murder case: Five persons remanded to police custody
Kolkata: Five alleged conspirators in the New Town murder case has been remanded to 7-day police custody by Barasat court on Wednesday.
The three contract killers, who were hired to kill promoter Chanchal Mondal, were remanded to
judicial custody.
Sources informed that the police will appeal to the court for police custody after the Test Identification (TI) parade is over.
On Wednesday, the relatives of alleged conspirators Ajitesh Haldar and Bikash Mondal claimed they had no connection with the murder. Their family members said he was being framed.
Sources informed that Ajitesh and Bikash have been in the promoting business for several years. It is suspected that they might have connection with some syndicate business in the area.
Though the 'syndicate torture' could no more be seen but some people may try to start the same again.
The sleuths are also probing from this angle to make sure that no syndicate business is connected with this murder. According to the locals, some more persons are suspected to be connected with Chandan's murder but police claimed that they are not in a
position to say anything about it at this stage.
On the other hand, the sleuths are confirmed that among the three contract killers Shaikh Sirazul, alias Raja, alias Pagla, and Shaikh Rafique, alias Shaikh Rakibul are connected with the notorious criminal of Kanthi in East Midnapore, Karna Bera.
On October 4, these two criminals hurled bombs outside Kanthi court to snatch Bera from the police.
Later, they tried to flee on a bike. But their plan was foiled as the bike somehow did not start. They tried to snatch another bike from a passerby but that did not help as well.
Later, Bera was caught after a few hours while Rafique and Sirazul managed to flee. Sirazul is known as Shaikh Munna in Kanthi.
He is on the most wanted list of the police.
