New Town campus: St. Xavier's Univ now offers MBA course

Kolkata: The prestigious St Xavier's University on Tuesday officially launched the first batch of MBA course on its New Town Campus.

It will be two-year full time residential course commencing from the current academic year, offering specialization in marketing, finance, human resources and systems and operations. The course will be run under Xavier Business School.

The University has got its approval from All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) to begin the MBA programme. The classes will be done in two batches, each consisting of around 45 students. The curriculum and syllabus have been finalised. Admission process for the course was done through national and international level admission tests like XAT, CAT, GMAT and others. The University has already recruited a number of faculty and a set of guest faculties from the industry, having teaching experience in renowned business schools, have been empanelled.

It may be mentioned that Xavier Business School, a separate business school was already set up on the University Campus for running this course. The state-of-the-art, smart and air-conditioned class rooms and amphitheaters have also come up. The students can access a number of online professional journals in a separate updated library that has been set up for the new course. There is also a modern computer lab with adequate number of computer terminals and a state-of-the art language lab.

The course was inaugurated on its campus in New Town in the presence of Vice-Chancellor Father J Felix Raj, Pro Vice-Chancellor Father Sebasti L Raj and industrialist Sanjiv Goenka. While addressing the gathering Goenka urged students to believe in themselves in order to be successful.

While sharing his personal experience as a student, Goenka, Chairman of RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group said during his college days there had been frequent load shedding in the city and the electric supply office performed miserably. He also claimed that their company later acquired the CESC with a vow to solve the problem.

Father J Felix Raj told the media that a full-fledged law school will also be set up on the New Town campus as a part of the university's Vision 2025. The University will offer a Bachelor degree in LLB of 5 years duration. The project is in the pipe line, said Father J Felix Raj.
