New Alipore researcher death: Police initiate murder case

Kolkata: The New Alipore police station started a murder case in the death of the researcher who fell from the seventh floor of the Zoological Survey of India building at New Alipore on Monday evening.
"We have started a case of murder against unknown persons on the basis of a complaint lodged by the victim's family. They have not named anybody in their complaint," a senior police official of the detective department said.
35-year-old Arpan Parui, a resident of Bauria in Howrah.was found lying in a pool of blood. Parui who had joined as a researcher on September 1 was working in his laptop before the incident happened. His laptop was on.
"We think this is a case of murder. He was not in depression. He was a good student and was working in the area of his choice. Last Saturday, he had gone to meet his parents," Swajan Sarkar, the victim's uncle said. The forensic experts visited the spot on Tuesday, examined the place of occurrence and also went to the place on the seventh floor where the youth had fallen. "We need to corroborate the forensic evidence and circumstantial evidence before arriving at a conclusion on the exact reason of death," a senior police officer said. Parui lived as a paying guest at Garcha area in Ballygunge and had stayed back at ZSI beyond 6.30 pm. Most of the people who work in ZSI had left by that time.
The police are scanning the call details of his cell phone and his personal laptop for further leads.
