NDITA plans steps to prevent waterlogging, repair broken roads

Kolkata: Nabadiganta Industrial Township Authority (NDITA) has chalked out an elaborate plan to prevent waterlogging and repair the roads that have been damaged as a result.

A high level meeting to address the issue was held on Monday. A team of engineers has been set up to monitor the water level at Bagjola and Kestopur canals and keep a tab on the quantum of rainfall. The pumps that are engaged to clear the accumulated water have been kept ready.

Waterlogging happens in some pockets in New Town, in areas surrounding College More in sector V and in areas surrounding Sukantanagar. Because of the construction of East-West Metro, the drains have been clogged, which is the main reason for waterlogging in some pockets. Because of waterlogging, long stretches of roads have become wavy and damaged badly. But the affected portions could not be repaired immediately because of the rain. Roads will be repaired only after the end of monsoon. Damaged roads pose a serious threat to the two wheeler riders as it is very difficult to gauge the depth of the potholes. People working in sector V are also greatly inconvenienced due to waterlogging.

Senior officials of NDITA assured that once the dry spell starts, repairing work will be taken up without delay and the potholes will be covered.

It may be mentioned that stretches on Diamond Harbour Road after Behala police station have also been badly affected due to the construction of Joka BBD Bag Metro railway.
