NCB seizes huge quantities of acetic anhydride, ganja

Kolkata: Kolkata Zonal Unit of Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) arrested two persons from Murshidabad and seized a huge quantity of acetic anhydride which is used to prepare heroin. In another case, a person has been arrested with 20 kg ganja from Howrah railway station.

According to NCB officials, on Saturday they came to know from sources that a person at Bansgara in Murshidabad had stored huge quantities of acetic anhydride liquid, which is used for heroin preparation.

Based on the information, on the intervening night of Saturday-Sunday, NCB officials raided the house of the accused person identified as Md Taihirul Islam. During search, a container full of acetic anhydride was found inside his house.

After being detained and questioned, Islam stated that the Acetic Anhydride found in his home belonged to Md Shariful Islam of Lalgola in Murshidabad, who requested him to keep the same. Later, the duo was arrested and remanded to judicial custody after being produced before the concerned court.

In another incident, in a joint operation by NCB and Railway Protection Force (RPF), a person was arrested with approximately 20 kg ganja from Howrah railway station on Friday.

Acting on a tip, NCB sleuths went to Howrah railway station on Friday afternoon

to nab a person who was reportedly coming from South India.

After reaching Howrah, NCB sought assistance from RPF and a joint operation was made. After waiting for quite some time, the sleuths identified a person whose movement looked suspicious. He was surrounded and the bag which he was carrying was opened.

During the search, 20.5 kg ganja was found concealed inside the bag. The accused, identified as Lal Kumar Yadav, was arrested and brought to the NCB office in New Town. During interrogation, Yadav stated that he had procured the ganja from Vijaynagaram in Andhra Pradesh and was taking it to Bihar for delivery.
