NCB seizes huge haul of phensedyl, 2 held

Kolkata: The Kolkata Zonal Unit of Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) seized a huge quantity of banned drug phensedyl and arrested two persons from Malda on Monday night. The consignment of the drug is suspected to have come from Uttar Pradesh.

According to sources, NCB officials came to know a few days ago that a banned drug would be smuggled through Bengal on Monday night. Based on the information, NCB personnel went to Gazole in Malda and waited for a truck bearing registration number of Uttar Pradesh.

At around 11:30 pm, the truck was spotted on National Highway (NH) 34 which was carrying materials of a renowned healthcare goods manufacturer. They kept following the truck and saw a man who stopped the truck.

After the truck was stopped, NCB officials intercepted the truck and detained the three persons including the driver and helper of the truck. During search, initially they didn't find anything suspicious.

However, when one of the officials offloaded the food items, some suspicious packets were seen. After opening one of the packets, NCB officials found phensedyl which is banned in India.

Following that the trio along with the truck was brought to Kolkata late on Monday night. The bottles were counted and NCB officials found 25 thousand phensedyl bottles. Later, a case was initiated and the driver and helper were arrested. The other person is being questioned.
