Nandigram rerun: CID initiates fresh murder case against Lakshman Seth
Kolkata: The state Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has initiated a fresh murder case against former CPI-M leader Lakshman Seth and 15 others named in the FIR related to the violence during the Namdigram movement. In a statement, CID said, "We have taken up investigation of Nandigram police station case number 71/18 registered on March 2, 2018, over abduction and murder of Durgapada Maity and Subrata Samanta in 2007. Lakshman Seth and 15 others have been named as accused in this case." According to sources in state CID,family members of the two victims approached a local court seeking re-investigation in the cases. The court in turn has directed the CID to register murder cases, on the basis of which they have initiated a case. Seth, the main accused in the case, had joined BJP in 2016.
The murder and missing cases of Nandigram, along with the police firing cases, were handed over to CBI 10 years back in 2007. In these years, CBI had filed multiple chargesheets in the case and arrested a few CPI-M workers.
