Nalin Sarkar Street Puja to represent ever-conflicting human thoughts

Kolkata: Two contrary states of human soul would be represented in one of the Puja pandals in the city this year.

Nalin Sarkar Street Sarbojanin Durga Puja committee has come up with the unique idea of depicting how people, particularly youths commit suicide when the evil inside them win over the good, prompting them to take a drastic step.

The theme attempts to invoke Mother Goddess, seek power from 'Her' to fight the evil forces that are within us.

Goddess Durga will awaken our soul so that people can control the bad qualities that exist within us. The eternal fight between the good and the bad will find embodiment in various models which will be showcased at the Puja pandal.

Emotional responses such as loneliness and despair often lead people to commit suicide. These would be represented as Mahishashur (demon). The good thoughts of people are often defeated by the bad ones and they are often unconscious when committing a crime, claimed the puja organisers.

According to artist Abhijit Ghatak, the fight between the conscious and the unconscious state of human mind is the theme of Nalin Sarkar Street Sarbojanin Durgatsob.

"Varied thoughts come across our minds. The younger generation is often found addicted to various things due to their loneliness. When youth become addicted they take wrong decisions. There is always a fight between the good and evil forces that are within us," said Ghatak

Various paintings will be put up within the puja pandal to represent the contrary state of a human mind.

A statue will be erected at the main entrance of the Puja pandal representing loneliness and despair. Models of various parts of machines will also find place within the pandal as the puja organisers are trying to highlight that now-a-days people have transformed into machines.

As human lives have become mechanical, many are found to be suffering from depression and loneliness.

There will be various models depicting how one becomes addicted and what are the ways to stop him/her from getting addicted.

Goddess Durga is an embodiment of divine power who is there to help and

guide the youth.
