Nadia businessman shot dead by friend

Kolkata: Subhas Biswas, a local business from Nadia's Palashipara was shot dead by his friend on mere suspicion that Biswas might have developed an illicit love relationship with his wife.

The incident triggered tension among the locals in the Bijoynagar area of Nadia where the victim used to live with

his family.

The accused Bibhas Biswas has been absconding since the incident took place on Sunday morning. He lives in the

same area.

The locals staged a protest demonstration near Palashipara police station. The agitation was later lifted following the intervention of senior police officers of the district.

Police said the victim was having tea at a stall near his house on Sunday morning when his friend reached there. Before the victim could realise anything the accused took out a gun and shot him from a

close quarter.

The accused fled the spot immediately after the incident. Some locals rushed the victim to a nearby hospital where the doctors pronounced him brought dead. According to the preliminary investigation, the police suspect that the accused thought the victim might have had an extra-marital relationship with

his wife. Locals have demanded his immediate arrest.
