N Dinajpur to observe 'No Vehicles Day' on every Wed
BALURGHAT: In a unique decision and keeping in mind state's directives to cut down on avoidable expenditures, North Dinajpur district administration declared Wednesday of every week as 'No Vehicles Day' on Wednesday.
All government officials including district magistrate Arvind Kumar Meena reached offices on foot without using the vehicles allotted to them on Wednesday morning.
Official sources informed that the decision had been taken recently by the district administration following state's directive to cut down avoidable expenses.
Meanwhile, there was a high-level meeting organised on July 5 at Nabanna Sabhaghar in presence of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee along with her Cabinet colleagues and government officials including Chief Secretary Malay De, where Banerjee had instructed them to take control of avoidable expenses at any cost. According to her, public money should not be spent on luxury.
DM Arvind Kumar Meena said: "We have declared Wednesday of every week as 'No Vehicles Day.' No official will use their car on that day, instead they would cover the entire distance from residence to office on foot. It has been decided following CM's directive strictly." It may be mentioned that the administration has taken this decision to keep the budget minimum.
