Mystery shrouds death of inmate at rehab centre
Kolkata: An inmate of a rehabilitation centre at Amdanga in North 24-Parganas died mysteriously on Saturday. The deceased identified as Nirmal Biswas was admitted there a week ago.
According Biswas's family, he was addicted to alcohol and other sedatives for quite a
long time.
Though his family members tried to stop him from taking the sedatives and alcohol, Biswas did not bother. Having no other way out, he was admitted to a rehabilitation center in Amdanga.
Everyday, members from the family used to call the centre and ask about Biswas's health condition.
On Saturday night, Biswas's family was called and informed that he had been admitted to Ashoknagar State General Hospital as he felt
seriously ill.
When his family members reached the hospital, they found that he was not admitted there. They rushed to the rehabilitation centre demanded to see Biswas.
It was alleged that the rehabilitation centre authority tried to stop them from entering the premises. Later, Biswas's family located him in an unconscious state in a car at the premise of the rehabilitation center. He was immediately rushed to Ashoknagar Block Health Center where the doctors declared him
brought dead.
Immediately, police was informed. The family members alleged that their son was beaten to death at the centre.
They have lodged a complaint at Amdanga
police station.
Police have detained an official of the said rehabilitation centre and are questioning about the death
of Biswas.
