Murder accused escapes from CID custody in wee hours
Kolkata: A murder case accused identified as Hafizul Shaikh managed to flee from the clutches of West Bengal CID officers while being taken to Kolkata from Delhi on transit remand. Later, a specific case has been lodged with Allahabad Junction GRP.
According to the sources, Shaikh's wife died a few months ago at her in-law's home in Diamond Harbour. After her death, Shaikh's father in-law alleged that he murdered his daughter.
Shaikh's father-in-law also alleged that his daughter was regularly tortured by her husband. After Shaikh's father-in-law lodged a complaint with Diamond Harbour Police Station, a murder case was initiated.
But after a couple days passed, Shaikh's father-in-law filed a writ petition in Calcutta High Court. Later, the Court ordered the CID to take over the case. When the CID officials went to arrest Shaikh, he gave a slip to the sleuths.
Since then the CID was trying to trace Shaikh. Recently, the officials came to know that Shaikh was hiding in Delhi.
Immediately, a team of CID officials went to Delhi and was able to apprehend him from there.
After producing him before a local court in Delhi, the CID was granted transit remand on October 16.
The CID officers boarded Ajmer-Sealdah Express with Shaikh. A handcuff was tied to his wrist. On October 17, at around 5 am when the train was slowly approaching the outer signal of Allahabad Junction, Shaikh jumped off the train and managed to flee. The train was halted and the CID officials informed the GRP and went towards crime scene.
However, the police failed to trace Shaikh. Later, a complaint has been lodged. Allahabad Police have circulated Shaikh's picture to the adjoining areas.
Now, questions arose as to how a handcuffed accused was able to flee more than one police personnel. According to the sources, the CID has already initiated an enquiry to check if any CID personnel was at fault.
