Jyotipriyo Mullick, the state Food and Supplies minister, has asked for a privilege motion against CPI(M) MLA Tanmoy Bhattacharya for providing wrong information about North 24 Parganas in the Assembly.
On Friday, Speaker Biman Bandyopadhyay said that Mullick asked for privilege against Bhattacharya, the MLA from North Dum Dum Assembly Constituency, for providing wrong a information during the discussion on Budget.
It may be recalled that Bhattacharya had claimed that only 70,000 digital ration cards were distributed in Habra, Mullick's Assembly constituency.
Stating that the figure provided by Bhattacharya in the House was incorrect and done with the purpose of distracting members of the House, Mullick asked for privilege.
Seeking the privilege, Mullick had filed an appeal to the secretary of the Assembly five days ago after going through the data available with his Food and Supplies department. The data showed that Bhattacharya's figure was incorrect. The extended Budget session in the Assembly ended on Friday, in which 11 bills, including the West Bengal Clinical Establishments (Registration, Regulation and Transparency) Bill, were passed.
The Speaker said that members of the Opposition have got the opportunity to raise their questions. He added that the Opposition had cooperated in running the Assembly smoothly.
He also wished a speedy recovery to the Leader of the Opposition Abdul Mannan. Mannan had fallen ill after he was suspended for two days for instigating other members to create chaos in the Assembly.
