Mother held for allegedly killing minor son
BALURGHAT: A middle-aged woman has been arrested for her alleged involvement in killing minor son on Sunday night. Police said the accused Bimala Roy hails from Bowgram (West) in North Dinajpur district.
Police have produced her before Raiganj Court on Monday. Specific charges including 302 and 201 of IPC have been brought by the police against the accused.
They said the body of the minor boy, Debu Roy (7), was found hanging from a tree at a desolate place, nearly 1.5 km away from home, on August 18.
Notably, Debu had gone missing since August 17. As the family members failed to trace the boy, a missing diary was filed at Karnajora police station. Police later recovered his naked body. Debu's
father Badal Roy works in Siliguri and resides there.
Police suspect that the little boy might have come to know any illegal act of his mother following which the accused, with the help of someone else, killed him. Police have started interrogating the woman.
Around 100 locals have staged a demonstration and blocked Raiganj-Balurghat State Highway 10 demanding strict legal action against the accused on Monday.
There was traffic congestion following the blockade. Later, a large contingent of police led by DSP (Sadar) Prasad Pradhan arrived at the spot and brought the situation under control. They assured the locals of justice and restored normalcy.
"The accused should be punished for killing the innocent boy. Police must reveal the truth. We are confident that someone else is also involved," said an agitating local.
