Moloy Ghatak lays foundation stone for Durgapur Court complex

Kolkata: State Law and Labour minister Moloy Ghatak on Sunday said the government is putting a lot of emphasis on improving the judicial infrastructure in the state and there has been sufficient allocation of funds for developing the legal infrastructure

"Every week, we are either laying foundation stones or unveiling new court buildings across the state. Last week, we have laid a foundation stone for a court building in Bankura and today (Sunday) we are laying a foundation stone for Duragpur court building. When we came to power in 2011, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had said there will be justice at the doorstep of every people. We are leaving no stone unturned in this respect," Ghatak said while laying a foundation stone for Durgapur Court complex.

The Law department is coming up with a nine-storey court building with an investment of Rs 67 crore in Bankura, while the investment is Rs 27 crore for a four-storey court building in Durgapur.

According to the minister, the government has plans to increase the number of courts in Durgapur Court complex and the project has been conceived in a manner to ensure the same.

He thanked Justice Sanjib Banerjee of Calcutta High Court, who had examined the architectural plan of the court building and approved the same.

"We will follow this model in places where we come up with any legal infrastructure in days to come," Ghatak added. The government has recently inaugurated a new court building at Islampur in North Bengal.

"On August 5, we will be visiting Jalpaiguri for supervising the work going on for the infrastructure of Calcutta High Court's circuit bench. We have plans to inaugurate the circuit bench on August 17," the minister said.

Ghatak also talked about the various measures undertaken by the government for the welfare of lawyers

across the state. "We have stipend for those who are new in the profession. We also have welfare funds in place for monetary assistance for the advocates in case he/she faces a crisis situation due to any mishap," a senior Law department official said.
