Missing youth run over by train, body found

Kolkata: Mystery cropped up early on Wednesday morning over the death of a youth, who had gone missing since Tuesday evening. The youth, identified as Tapas Pal (35), was hit by a train between Dum Dum junction and Belgharia railway station.

According to sources, Pal went out of his home at Rabindrapally in Nimta

on Tuesday evening. At night, some miscreants went to his home and asked for him.

When his family members told that Pal had been out of his house since evening, the miscreants allegedly threatened them. They reportedly said that they would be back to take some sort of revenge.

Following this, Pal's family members reportedly called up Nimta police station and sought help. But it is alleged that police did not go to their house and did not bother to investigate. After looking for Pal in hospitals, on Wednesday morning his family members came to know that he had been run over by a train.

Sources informed that on Wednesday morning at around 5:45 am, Pal was seen lying beside the railway track near CCR bridge between Dum Dum junction and Belgharia railway station. At that moment, an Up Ranaghat local was heading towards Belgharia.

As per the statement of the locomotive pilot of the train, Pal had come on the track when the train came close to him. Despite applying emergency brake, he failed to stop the train on time and it went over Pal's body. As per the norms, a knockdown memo was submitted at Belgharia railway station by the locomotive pilot.

Pal's family members alleged that it is a case of murder. But as per the statement of the locomotive pilot, he had either committed suicide or it was an accident.

However, his family members alleged that pal has died due to negligence by the Nimta police station, as police did not take any step to find him on Tuesday night.
