Miscreants open fire after failing to get extortion money

Miscreants opened fire at Chandannagar in Hooghly after a local resident refused to give extortion money on Saturday night. The incident took place on Saturday night in a local ground at Haridradanga. Miscreants, five or six in number, assaulted some youth sitting there.

Brandishing their guns, those miscreants blank fired in air. The local resident escaped from the spot and the assailants also decamped from there later. Police have started the investigation but no one has been arrested so far in the connection.

Police learnt that the gang was operating since some months there. They demanded extortion money from the local businessmen. Police also came to know that a local youth, Subrata Ganguli, was beaten up by the miscreants on Saturday night. His condition was said to be critical.

A police team has started raiding the areas in the vicinity of Haridradanga.
