Middle-aged man shot at over extortion demands

A middle-aged person associated with real estate business had a close shave on Monday night when a miscreant shot at him following a heated altercation over demand for extortion. The incident occurred at Kheyada in Sonarpur area. The bullet passed just brushing an ear of Swapan Makal who was immediately rushed to the National Medical College Hospital (NMCH). The miscreant Sanu Naskar who shot at him was arrested from a hideout by the Sonarpur police in the wee hours of Tuesday. Another accused, Asgar Ali, who was accompanying Naskar, is still absconding. According to police sources, Makal had recently bagged a real estate project for which the two accused were demanding a share of a few lakhs. However, Makal refused to comply with their demands. While he was returning home on Monday night, the duo stopped him and demanded money. When he refused, a heated verbal exchange ensued. Suddenly, Naskar, who was carrying a pistol, shot at Makal. Luckily, the bullet missed the target and passed just brushing his ear.
