Metro services to remain open during 'Janata Curfew', rakes being sanitised

Kolkata: Kolkata Metro rakes will continue to run on Sunday, even though Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has decided to keep its services closed due to the 'Janata Curfew' declared by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

However, Metro Railway is taking extreme precautions in order to make sure that their employees and passengers remain safe.

"According to the latest updates, we are running normal services on Sunday (March 22)," said an official. He reiterated that cleaning of stations, platforms and the insides

of trains, particularly the

frequently touched areas, is being carried out on a regular basis.

"In order to make Metro staff, their family members as well as commuters aware about the Coronavirus pandemic, the medical department has been organising Coronavirus Campaigns on a regular basis. As part of this campaign, an interactive session on Coronavirus infection was organised today (March, 20) at Metro Railway Staff Colony, Tollygunge," said Kolkata Metro Railway chief public relations officer Indrani Banerjee.

During the session, Dr S Mallik, additional chief medical superintendent, interacted with the residents of the colony and guided them about what needs to be done at this crucial moment. He requested all not to panic and take all necessary precautions to stop the spread of Coronavirus.

Meanwhile, Kolkata Metro Railway has opened an isolation ward and fever clinic at Tapan Sinha Memorial Hospital. Arrangements have also been made to quarantine suspected patients.
