Kolkata: Metro services were disrupted after a woman attempted suicide at Maidan Metro Station on Tuesday. The incident took place in the morning when victim jumped off before a Kavi Subhash-bound train.

The train was entering the station when the victim jumped on the tracks. The driver of the AC rake applied emergency brake and stopped the train. The power connection to the railway track was immediately disconnected by the metro railway authorities.

When the incident took place around 10.42 am, the RPF and metro personnel rushed to the spot to rescue the victim from the railway track.

The victim was rushed to the nearby hospital. The incident triggered panic among passengers who were standing at the platform to catch a metro.

"Truncated services will be run from Central to Dumdum/Noapara and from Mahanayak Uttam Kumar station to Kavi Subhash station both UP and DN," said Kolkata Metro Railway Chief Public Relations Officer Indrani Banerjee.

Normal services resumed nearly after half an hour. The commuters faced inconvenience as the incident took place at the rush hour. Many passengers took buses to reach their offices. The trains were overcrowded when normal services resumed.
