'Merit list of successful candidates sent, district primary councils asked to display names'

State Education minister Partha Chatterjee on Monday said, the merit list of successful candidates in primary teachers' recruitment, was sent to every district where the district primary councils were asked to display the names of successful candidate.

Chatterjee, however, clearly mentioned that the state government would take strong action against those district inspectors (primary) who do not display names of successful candidates.

So far, five such district inspectors (primary) were punished by the state government.

"We have categorically instructed to display the list of successful candidates to the district councils. Some of the district councils surprisingly did not follow the instruction," Chatterjee said.

It will be recalled, the Calcutta high court earlier asked the West Bengal Board of Primary Education to submit an affidavit on the recent teachers' recruitment process in the primary schools.

Following a case filed in the High Court on behalf of 160 examinees who failed to get jobs at West Bengal TET — Primary Teacher Examination — the court directed the Board to submit an affidavit.

Justice Arijit Banerjee directed the West Bengal Board of Primary Education to submit an affidavit. The court particularly sought for the reply in an affidavit that why no panel of successful candidates was published and also, why the board preferred to inform the successful candidates through SMSs and emails.

The court asked the following questions to the board: What is the exact number of vacancies that the state government presently has? Why the state government was recruiting district-wise? and, why there was no composite merit list? The Board is supposed to answer to these questions in affidavits soon.
