Meeting ends on positive note at Bhangar, 'final minutes' likely on Aug 11

Kolkata: With the meeting over the Bhangar power grid sub-station issue being concluded on a positive note on Tuesday, the work for completion of the project would resume soon after the signing of 'final minutes' which is expected to take place on August 11.

Bastutantra Rakshya Committee continued for around five and a half hours till 6 pm on Tuesday.

There were around 50 representatives of the committee, who had a discussion over the issue with the District Magistrate of South 24-Parganas Y Ratnakara Rao.

Top brass of the state police in the district, along with other administrative officials and concerned officers of the state Power department were present in the meeting.

Stating that the meeting ended on a positive note with a high expectation of signing the 'final minutes', a senior official said they have discussed the issues that came to them when they had spoken to villagers, making them understand about the benefits of setting up the power grid sub-station.

There was also a preliminary discussion on certain compensation packages

and the final decision in this regard will come after the meeting on August 11, when the 'final minutes' is highly expected to get signed. The administration has

initiated work to finalise the same.

Sources said that they had certain misconceptions about the power grid sub-station. The administration has made them understand the real facts.

As a result, the representatives of the committee have assured "total cooperation"

for completing the remaining work of the power grid sub-station.

It has been learnt that the representatives of the committee on Tuesday placed a demand for a Local Development Plan for Khamarait. Sources said that the district administration has agreed to go for a special plan, which would be taken up for further development of the area.

There was also discussion about the scope of further development in the

area, mainly by creating different infrastructure for better irrigation facilities and roadways. It may be mentioned that the state government has already sanctioned a project to construct a road from Polerhaat to Swarupnagar. The project will cost Rs 21 crore and the work for construction of the same has also started.

A senior officer said that the continuous development work carried out by the state government has made it possible to get support of the people to complete the project. The work of the power grid sub-station will commence soon after the signing of the 'final minutes'.
