Medical student absconds after raping intern
Kolkata: A medical intern of a state-owned medical college was allegedly raped by a medical student of another state-owned medical college. It was also alleged that the accused promised to marry her and also took money from the victim.
According to the sources, the victim woman met the accused in the month of July, 2017, during her college fest in North Kolkata. During a conversation, the accused medical student had invited her, along with friends, to attend his college fest in September, 2017, in Central Kolkata. The victim with her friends attended the fest and their relation grew with time.
She said the accused used to visit her college often after her visit to his college fest. During October, 2017, the accused expressed his feelings towards her and she accepted his proposal. Following this both of them spent time with each other for quite a long time.
After a few months of their relationship, the accused requested her to lend some money as he needed it urgently.
Without hesitation the victim transferred Rs 34,000 through e-wallet. Later, on October 8, 2018, the accused allegedly invited her to a hotel on Park Street to have lunch.
When the victim reached the hotel, she was taken to a room where they had lunch. Later, the accused gave her a glass of juice to drink that contained alcohol or some hallucinating substance. After that he allegedly raped her.
In November, the victim came to know that she became pregnant. During this period, he again took around Rs 34,000 from her. When she informed the accused about it, he allegedly refused to marry her and stopped all sort of communication. On Friday, the victim lodged a complaint at Tala police station and a case was initiated against the accused on charges of rape (376 IPC) and cheating (417 IPC).
