Medical negligence charge against doctor at E Burdwan hospital

Kolkata: The death of a patient at Kalna Sub-divisional hospital in East Burdwan triggered tension on the hospital premises on Sunday as family members of the deceased alleged that the patient died due to medical negligence of a doctor.

The police had to intervene as the situation turned hostile in the area. Kishore Das, a resident of Memari in the East Burdwan, complained of fever and vomiting in the morning of October 12. The family members rushed the patient to Kalna Sub-divisional hospital.

Das was admitted to the emergency department of the hospital.

Family members of the victim claimed that the patient's condition deteriorated in the late night hours. The matter was brought to the notice of the on-duty nursing staff members, who in turn advised the patient's family members to go the doctors at the emergency ward.

Family members of the deceased alleged that they went to the emergency ward and found a doctor watching television inside a hospital room. The doctor did not allegedly respond despite repeated pleas.

They urged the doctor to treat the patient but he allegedly refused to turn up. The victim's family members alleged that the patient eventually died after being kept unattended. A chaos broke out following the death of the patient.

The family members staged protest demonstration triggering tension among the other patients on early Sunday morning. The district police reached the spot and brought the situation under control. They dispersed the mob and assured a probe into the incident. The exact reason behind his death is yet to be ascertained.
