Medical Bank hosts blood donation camp at Sovabazar Metro Stn

Kolkata: Medical Bank organised a blood donation awareness camp on National Blood Donation Day at Sovabazar Metro Station on Monday. Five hundred people, mostly youths took part in a mass blood test programme to know their blood groups.

D Ashis, secretary of Medical Bank, urged those who took part in the mass blood test to donate blood in case of any emergency during the pujas.

He said during the pujas lakhs of people, including foreigners and residents of other states come to the city to visit the pandals. In case they meet with any accident, it will be difficult for them to get blood. If there is a pool of 500 donors available, then it will be easier to meet emergencies.

It may be recalled that during the collapse of a portion of Vivekananda Road flyover in 2016, many people organised camps and donated blood for the victims who underwent treatment at various hospitals. Medical Bank also urged youths not to accept any gift for donating blood.

There are 70 state-run blood banks in Bengal along with another 35 private blood banks. There are 16 Central

blood banks.
