MCI lists debarred institutions in Bengal

The Medical Council of India (MCI) has cautioned students seeking admission in MBBS courses not to get in touch with private medical colleges which have been derecognised by it for the current academic session, as attempts are being made by some "unscrupulous elements" to guarantee them admission in these colleges.
In West Bengal, ICARE Institute of Medical Sciences & Research, Haldia run by an NGO associated with expelled CPI(M) MP, Laxman Seth was not given permission to admit candidates for the
academic year 2017-18 for infrastructural lapses.
The other two private medical colleges are Gouri Devi Institute of Medical Sciences, Durgapur and IQ-City Medical College, Burdwan. The Gouri Devi Institute of Medical Sciences has been debarred from admission for two consecutive academic years of 2017-18 & 2018-19. Whereas, the IQ-City Medical College in Burdwan has not been granted permission by the MCI for the year 2017-18.
It has come to the notice of the MCI that some medical college authorities across the country who have been derecognised, are trying to admit candidates against high capitation fees but in reality, these medical colleges do not have the permission to run medical courses for this academic year at least. The MCI has also issued an advisory to the students urging them not to be misled by the "frivolous statements" of these college authorities or by the people who demand capitation fees with fake promises of securing them admission in such colleges.
In its advisory, the MCI has categorically stated that admission in all medical colleges falling within the purview of the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956 for the academic year 2017-18 has to be through the common counselling conducted by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, government of India in case of 15 percent all India Quota seats in government medical colleges of the contributing states and for all MBBS seats in medical colleges run by deemed universities or by the designated authority of various state governments in respect of MBBS seats in government medical colleges and non-governmental medical colleges. Admissions made without common counseling is illegal. The MCI has not mentioned the names of any private medical colleges in its advisory.
The MCI urged all the candidates interested in taking admission in various medical colleges to check the status regarding grant of permission by the Central government to the colleges from the website of Medical Council of India ie www.mciindia.org and they should proceed only after verifying the status of the permission of the colleges.
