Mayor unveils multi-level car parking in city

Kolkata: Mayor Firhad Hakim on Saturday unveiled a multi-level car parking under Gariahat flyover that has the capacity to accommodate 40 cars.

"We will be coming up with similar car parking facilities under flyovers in the city. An electric vehicle charging station will be set up adjacent to this car parking space. We are pushing for more and more battery operated vehicles to curb pollution in the city," Hakim said. Member Mayor in Council (Parking) Debasish Kumar said that Gariahat is the third multi level car parking in the city . There are two similar facilities one at Rawdon Street and another at New Market.

"The Chaitra sale is commencing from Sunday and will be on till April 14, Poila Baisakh. During this period garments are sold at a discount and there is a huge gathering of people at Gariahat. People will be able to park their vehicles without hassle," Kumar said. The particular place at Gariahat where this facility has come up could park only 10 odd vehicles. Now 40 vehicles can be parked in this same space having three floors.
