Kolkata: A day when the city wore a deserted look with people staying indoors two ministers in the state
were found to be active to ensure alertness among people in the wake of COVID-19 situation.
State Urban Development and Municipal Affairs minister and city Mayor Firhad Hakim monitored conservancy work at Central Avenue while Minister of State for Sports Laxmi Ratan Shukla posted a video of physical exercises on the roof of his Howrah residence where he advised people to do exercise to stay fit and minimise any viral effect on their body.
"I have come here to see whether our conservancy workers have been equipped with masks, apron and other necessary protective equipment while carrying out their work. We have a shortage of manual labour but we have to ensure that cleanliness is at its best in the current situation. We have made three shifts for our conservancy workers," Hakim said after supervising conservancy work at Central Avenue along with Member Mayor in Council (Solid Waste Management ) Debabrata Majumder.
Hakim added that mechanical sweepers are being deployed to clean the major arterial roads while 20 sprinklers that have been introduced recently are being used to wash the roads.
"It is an open secret that physical exercise is of utmost importance to stay fit and minimise the effect of any virus attack on the body. Now gyms are closed so people can do some physical exercises at home to keep fit," said Shukla who had represented the Indian Cricket team.
Shukla advised that if space on roofs is not available then exercises like sit-ups, jumping, skipping etc can be done at home.
He appealed to sports personalities and celebrities to share similar videos of their physical exercise in social media or other platforms to inspire people to do physical exercise at home.
