Mayor Firhad Hakim inaugurates state-of-the-art bio-toilet in city
Kolkata: Mayor Firhad Hakim on Saturday said that a number of bio-toilets will be set up at strategic locations in the city where there is large assembly of people.
The first bio-toilet was inaugurated by Mayor Hakim at a petrol pump near a private school at the crossing of Alipore and Chetla.

councillor Debolina Biswas were also present on the occasion.
"If we buy bio-toilets from other places then the cost incurred is Rs 10,000 more. That is why Kolkata Municipal Corporation is itself making bio-toilets. We will set up bio-toilets at isolated places where there is no pay and use toilets. The designing of the bio-toilet has been done by Tarak Singh," said Hakim.
He said that two more bio-toilets were also inaugurated at Tollygunge police station bus stand and Gopal Nagar.
The toilets are western style and each one of them has a basin and a mirror.
More toilets will come up in places where there is no problem with power supply. It will have facilities to run in dual mode- both through solar power and normal sewage pattern.
It might be mentioned that these toilets have state-of-the-art features like they get washed automatically.
There are also smoke alarms which would prevent people from smoking inside the cubicles. If a toilet is shut for a prolonged period then there is an alarm for preventing accidents inside the toilets.
