Man tries to shoot wife, bullet hits another woman

A person tried to shoot his wife but the bullet hit another woman sitting beside the intended target at Bolpur's Gheedaha village. The accused person soon fled the spot.

The hunt is on for the accused. The injured woman was taken to the hospital and is battling for her life.

Police learnt that accused Ujjal Shekh brought a country-made gun to kill his wife Nisha Beghum in kangaroo court which was convened by the villagers on Friday morning.

Nisha had no knowledge about her husband's intention. She earlier, had challenged her husband who tried to give her 'talaq'. She brought the matter to the kangaroo court.

On Friday morning, Nisha and some of her neighbours came to the court while their matter was discussed there.

The assailant suddenly fired which missed the intended target and hit another woman sitting just beside Nisha. Some other women along with Nisha took her to the hospital.

The woman received a bullet injury on her belly.

Police learnt that Ujjal actually fired twice. One bullet hit a woman who was sitting behind his wife Nisha while the other hit a tree trunk.

"A raid is on to arrest the culprit," said a police officer.

Meanwhile, in another case, a miscreant shot three persons, which included a pregnant woman, at Malda's Manikchawk on Thursday night.

Three victims were taken to Malda Medical College and Hospital. They were admitted in a critical condition.

Police said a local farmer Bipul Sheikh was going to his farm, when some motorbike-borne miscreants shot him twice.

Bipul's nephew Gulzar and daughter Sahana tried to save him, but they also received bullet injuries.

"The miscreants escaped from there soon after the incident. The local residents rescued those three people and rushed them to Malda Medical College and Hospital," said a police officer.
