Man robbed by miscreants posing as police officials

Kolkata: A man was robbed by some unknown miscreants posing as police personnel on Monday night in Jorabagan area. Though a case has been registered at the Jorabagan police station, none has been arrested till Wednesday night.

According to sources, on Tuesday a businessman from Barasat lodged a complaint at the police station and stated that he had sent his employee identified as Loknath Rajbanshi in Garanhata area to buy some silver jewellery and precious stones.

After buying the objects Rajbanshi was waiting to take an autorickshaw near B K Pal Avenue, when a few persons suddenly surrounded him and claimed to be police personnel.

They instructed Rajbanshi to show documents regarding the stones and silver jewellery. When he was trying to ask questions, the miscreants allegedly compelled him to get into a car. They allegedly told Rajbanshi that he was being taken to a police station.

After going a few hundred meters, the miscreants pushed Rajbanshi out of the car after snatching the bag containing the valuables from him and fled.

As his mobile phone was in the bag, Rajbanshi could not communicate with his employer.

Police are scrutinising the footage of the CCTV cameras installed in the area where the incident took place. Earlier in multiple such cases, several police personnel were found involved in the crimes.

In a gold robbery case lodged in July last year in Muchipara police station, an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Kolkata Police and two other policemen were arrested, while during December last year, a driver of Kolkata Police was arrested for extorting money from two Bangladeshi nationals in Moulali area.
