Man kills stepdaughter, dumps body in drain
Kolkata: A man identified as Tapan Sardar was arrested here on Wednesday for allegedly killing his stepdaughter. The body of the girl was recovered from Maidan last week. The mother of the deceased Munni had lodged a police complaint on January 30. She said in the report that her daughter had been missing since her husband Tapan Sardar took her for a walk.
On January 31, local residents spotted a body inside a drain on Kingsway-Strand Road crossing in Maidan area. The head of the girl was smashed and her face was disfigured. Later, the police came to know that Sardar was also missing with the child. Munni told the police that Sardar is the stepfather of her child.
Sources said Sardar had assured Munni that he would look after her daughter despite having two children of his own. But after their marriage Sardar allegedly refused accept the girl. They often had arguments over this girl.
On January 30, Sardar took the girl for a walk. He returned late night and fell asleep. Munni thought that he would come back with the girl and did not suspect her husband's intentions.
On January 31 morning, when the girl's body was spotted, Sardar allegedly fled the footpath where he lived Munni. On Wednesday, police nabbed him from Ekbalpore area using the location of his mobile phone. Later, Sardar confessed to the crime admitted that he killed the girl and dumped her body in the drain.
