Kolkata: An aged person went down to the railway track at Kalighat Metro Station on Tuesday afternoon.

The person identified as Bishnu Kumar Sarkhel was immediately intercepted by a Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel and was eventually rescued unhurt.

After he was brought to the station master's office at Kalighat Metro Station, Sarkhel claimed that a five rupee coin somehow dropped from his pocket on to the track.

However, the Metro Railway authority claimed that Sarkhel later admitted to have tried to

commit suicide.

According to the Metro Railway spokesperson, around 2:30 pm on Tuesday, several people were waiting to avail the Dum Dum

bound Metro.

All of a sudden some people noticed that an aged person was trying to get down on the track. Significantly, a RPF personnel noticed this and rushed towards him.

Sarkhel was taken to the station master's room and

interrogated.

The Metro authority claimed that though initially he claimed to have gotten down on the track to pick up a coin that he had dropped, later Sarkhel admitted to have tried committing suicide.

"During the interrogation it appeared that he was not mentally stable. His family members were called and they confirmed the fact. He was lucky that there was no train scheduled to arrive at that point of time," said spokesperson of metro.

Later, Sarkhel was handed over to Kalighat police station for further procedure.

In the evening police handed Sarkhel over to his family members.
