Man found dead, kin alleges wife's role

A man was poisoned to death in Ghola, North 24 Parganas on Sunday night. His body was found from his bedroom. The family members of the deceased alleged that it was a case of murder and pointed their fingers towards his wife for deliberately poisoned him at night.

Police took the body of Bhola Das (30) for post-mortem. The investigators suspected that Das was fed a glass of water mixed with poison.

Meanwhile, police detained Das' wife Payal for interrogation. "We suspect that she fed poison to her husband. But we cannot reveal more in this case. The investigation is going on," said a police officer.

Police learnt that Das, a small-time trader, was a father of a 3-year-old girl. But he had a problematic relationship with his wife. Recently, Payal was seen talking with some other men outside her house.

The relatives of Das alleged that Payal had illicit relationship with outsiders and added that she planned to kill her husband before escaping with cash and jewellery.

On Sunday, Das arranged a family get together. He went to his room after completing his dinner. The family members alleged that Payal was waiting for chance and soon started altercating with her husband after the get together. Later, she mixed poison in the glass of drinking water.

"My brother was given poison. My sister-in-law killed him. I have no doubt about that," said Das' sister.

Some neighbours also said that they heard the couple quarreling with each other on that night. "They were altercating late at night. Later, we could not get any noise from the room. We received the news of his (Bhola) death on Monday night," said a neighbour.

On the other hand, the family members of Payal reached Das' house after the incident. They were being attacked by some members of Das' family and neighbours. Payal's relatives along with her mother then filed a complain with the police.

Das' family and a few neighbours demonstrated in front of the police station. However, the cops said that they would wait for the final post-mortem report to take the investigation further.
