Man falls from Maa flyover, dies
Kolkata: A man died after he fell down from the Garia-bound down ramp of Maa flyover on Sunday afternoon.
It is suspected that the person committed suicide.
According to sources, on Sunday afternoon, around 3:50 pm, police personnel were managing traffic and also prosecuting the drivers for overspeeding at the Parama Island crossing on
Eastern Metropolitan (EM) Bypass.
All of a sudden a person fell on the EM Bypass in front of Pragati Maidan police station which is at a stone throwing distance from the crossing.
Seeing a person falling down, traffic police personnel ran to the victim and rushed the man to a private hospital where doctor declared him brought
dead.
Later, the person was identified as Sajad Murmu (39) of Kusmandi in South Dunajpur.
Sources informed that
following the incident, the police scrutinised the CCTV footage of the cameras installed on the Garia bound ramp and saw that the man was walking up to the flyover.
It is suspected that due to some reasons Murmu has committed suicide. However, an unnatural death case has been registered
at the Pragati Maidan police station.
The police are trying to contact Murmu's family members. Also, investigators are trying to know why he came to the city.
