Man duped of Rs 50,000 by scammers in Balurghat

BALURGHAT: Makhan Jha, a resident of Balurghat's Mangalpur, has lodged a complaint on Monday claiming that he had been duped of Rs 50,000 after he shared his bank details with a person who introduced himself as a bank manager.

Jha, a permanent resident of Bihar, has been staying in Balurghat for over a couple of years. Receiving complaint from him, police have started an investigation. None has been arrested so far.

According to him, he has a savings account in a nationalised bank at its Balurghat branch. He used to keep cash there. A few days ago, a man introducing himself as the manager of that branch asked Jha about his bank account details or said his account would be closed.

The man asked for the OTP (One Time Password) set on his phone. Being convinced and without suspecting anything, Jha gave him all the details including the OTP.

Last week, when Jha had gone to the branch for transaction details, he learnt that the said amount had been withdrawn from his account three consecutive times by some unknown hackers. He informed the bank manager about the incident of cheating.

The bank manager advised Jha to lodge a police complaint. Later, he went and lodged a written complaint at Balurghat police station. Police said they are trying to solve the matter as soon as possible.
