Man beaten to death over altercation in Anandapur
Kolkata: A person was beaten to death after an altercation at Nonadanga in Anandapur on Thursday night.
According to police, on Thursday night at around 11:30 pm an altercation broke out between Sujit Biswas (35) and Tapati Das of Lake Pally in Anandapur. Tapati alleged that Biswas had broken her clay oven over some dispute.
While the two were having a heated exchange, Tapati's son identified as Soumyadeep started assaulting Sujit with a bamboo stick. It has been alleged that Tapati also joined her son and started assaulting Sujit with a brick. Though he tried to resist, he failed to save himself.
Hearing him screaming for help, his neighbours came out of their homes and saw him lying on the ground bleeding profusely. Locals immediately rushed him to Calcutta National Medical College and Hospital (CNMCH), where Sujit was declared brought dead.
On Friday morning Anandapur police station was informed about the incident. Police later went to the spot and questioned a few locals to know what had exactly happened.
After cops were told about the whole incident, police registered a case on the basis of a statement by a person identified as Sanjay Chakraborty against Tapati and Soumyadeep. They have been booked under Section 304 (punishment for culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and 114 (abettor present when offence is committed) of the IPC.
Later, cops arrested the accused duo. Police are probing further to find out if there was any other dispute between Biswas and the accused persons.
