Man arrested for bank fraud from Gurgaon

Kolkata: A youth identified as Gaurav Raj was arrested by the officers of Watgunge police station from Gurgaon for allegedly cheating and siphoning of money from Satish Kumar Shaw's bank account.

He has been brought to Kolkata on transit remand and was produced before the Alipore Court. Raj has been sent to police custody till February 18. According to the complaint, on January 3, Shaw came to know that Rs 2.90 lakh was withdrawn from his bank account. He lodged a complaint with the Watgunge police station. He informed that his phone number was not working since past few days.

Based on the complaint, sleuths initiated a probe and found that Shaw's mobile number was used for money transactions from Vaishali in Bihar. It was found that the money was transferred from his bank account and was sent to other accounts as well as to some virtual money wallets. While going through those accounts, police came across Gaurav Raj's name.

Shaw was shown Raj's photo and immediately he identified him as Raj had taught him to use a smart phone. He suspected that Raj might have used the details of his voter ID card, cheque book and other documents from his phone.

Based on the information, police found that Raj used those documents to buy a new SIM card and used Shaw's mobile number to transfer money. After the new SIM card with the same number started working, Shaw's number stopped working. Even Raj had the access to the One Time Passwords (OTPs) generated on Shaw's number. Police found that the money was transferred to a person, who owns a hotel at Gurgaon in Haryana.

Immediately a team from Watgunge police station was sent to Gurgaon, where Raj and his girlfriend had rented a room. The address provided by Raj was found to be false. Sleuths managed to track his girlfriend and interrogated her. Following investigation, Raj was nabbed from Gurgaon.
