Mamata visit hospitals, boost morale of doctors and health workers

Kolkata: For the first time ever any Chief Minister visited all major hospitals in the city to boost the morale of doctors and health workers when they are fighting day and night risking their lives to save people from COVID-19.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday evening visited almost the major hospitals in the city and the quarantine centre at Rajarhat along with Commissioner of Kolkata Police Anuj Sharma.

Banerjee spoke to principals and senior officials of the hospitals and enquired about the present situation in their respective hospitals. She also enquired about the supply of masks, hand sanitisers and other materials required at this point of time. Most importantly, she informed the hospital authorities that the state government has made arrangements for their accommodation in nearby hotels.

She visited RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, Calcutta Medical College and Hospital, NRS Medical College and Hospital, SSKM Hospital, quarantine centre at Rajarhat, Beliaghata ID Hospital and MR Bangur Hospital. Banerjee distributed hand sanitisers and masks at all the hospitals.

Banerjee took immediate step from the spot when she came to know that accommodation facility of some doctors and health workers of NRS Medical College and Hospital and MR Bangur Hospital is yet to be informed. The Chief Minister, who is also the state's Health Minister, contacted the concerned official to ensure that doctors and health workers of NRS Medical College and Hospital are informed about their accommodation facilities at the earliest. While at MR Bangur Hospital, the Chief Minister spoke to the concerned person over phone to find out a hotel near the hospital where at least 15 to 20 doctors and health workers can stay. She directed that the necessary arrangement should be completed by Tuesday itself. Arrangements for remaining health workers of the hospital is already being done. Banerjee also directed the officials to complete all tasks at the Rajarhat quarantine centre at the earliest.

Chief Minister urged all doctors and health workers also to take care of their health by maintaining all precautionary measures while treating patients as there would be no way out left in such a situation if they fall ill.

"I came to salute you all for working relentlessly to save people in this pandemic situation," Chief Minister told the doctors and health workers at all the hospitals.

At MR Bangur Hospital, a senior official said that it no state Chief Minister has taken such a move to visit hospitals to boost morale of doctors and health workers. In reply Chief Minister said that "now we are member of one family that is fighting to save people from COVID-19 and we will surely win if we keep fighting together."
