Mamata urges BDOs to coordinate with cops

Malda: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has asked the Block Development Officers (BDOs) to coordinate with the police and not to ignore even an apparently insignificant incident. She was addressing an administrative review meeting here on Tuesday afternoon.
"The BDOs should always coordinate with the police (Circle Inspectors) and never ignore even an apparently insignificant incident. The Superintendents of Police and the District Magistrates should always work together and this sort of coordination is needed for efficient running of the administration," she said.
The CM maintained that "incidents will continue to happen but prompt action on part of the administration is very important."
She asked the BDOs to listen to the grievances of the people and oversee mid-day meal and other projects. It may be recalled that at the administrative review meeting held in Nadia last week, she had said "BDOs are the face of the government."
She said a Rs 219 crore road, connecting Shami with Harishchandrapur, will be constructed. She asked officials to inform people about the project. Watch towers will be constructed at the Indo-Bangldesh border.
Banerjee maintained that Malda district is flanked by Jharkhand and Bihar and there is the Indo-Bangladesh border as well. She said police intelligence has to be beefed up as the district is vulnerable.
The Chief Minister stressed on the implementation of Safe Drive Save Life scheme. The state government has taken up schemes to develop tourism in the district. Every year, hundreds of tourists visit Malda to visit the old temples of Gour.
The CM said home stay facilities should be improved and the Self-Help Groups (SHGs) should be involved. "They can discharge their duties well and so, they should be involved in the projects to construct accommodation for tourists."
