Mamata to inaugurate Jangalmahal Mela in Jhargram
Kolkata: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will inaugurate Jangalmahal Mela in Jhargram, which is scheduled to begin on January 13.
The mela will be held on the ground of Kumud Kumari Institution and will continue till January 20. A high-level meeting was held in this regard, to discuss about the arrangements of the mela in Purulia on Tuesday.
The meeting was chaired by Shantiram Mahato, state minister for Paschimanchal Unayan Affairs department. Sukumar Hansda, MLA, A Subbaiya, principal secretary, Paschimanchal Unnayan Affairs department and representatives of seven districts also attended the meeting.
The districts which make Jangalmahal are West Midnapore, Jhargram, Bankura, Purulia, Birbhum, South Burdwan and West Burdwan.
There will be a special zone where tribal food will be made available to the visitors. Another area will be reserved for tribal artisans where they will set up stalls to sell their products.
There will be stalls for seven districts, where the artisans will display their unique products. Twenty state government departments will have their stalls as well.
At the mela, the state government will give dhamsa-madal to 940 groups presenting folk music. There will be cultural shows in the evening, where folk artistes will perform dance and music.
